Trekking and mountain biking in the Celestial Mountains 17 days


Trekking tour to Karakol, Ton - Jyluu-Suu (hot spring) and mountain biking in the Song-Kul steppes. Mountain bike riding along the wild Kokomeren river. Suberbe trekking in nature with multicolored landscapes, meeting nomads at the "jaïloo", in the heart of Tian-Shan (Monts Celestials) and Terskeï AlaToo. Feel the warm welcome of the shepherds and discover an unknown Country of Kygyzstan.

Day 1: Bishkek

We will meet at the Manas international airport and transfer to Bishkek. Rest in a guesthouse or hotel. Visit the capital city Bishkek and its center, contrasted city of Soviet architecture but with nice parks and superb Trekkings. You will visit the Osh Grand Bazaar, Trekking along its bustling alleyways, and see its artisanal goods, its cultural contrasts between Chinese specialties and dried fruits from the Middle-East.

Day 2: Karakol Transfer to city of Karakol.

We drive along Lake Issyk-Kul by the north shore, the second highest salt lake in the world after lake Titikaka.

Day 3: Sirota camp

Trekking in the Karakol Gorge to arrive in the Sirota camp, the day starts with morning transfer by car (30min.)

Day 4: Altyn-Arashan

Trekking to Ala-Kul Lake. A lake at the altitude of 3500m. We will cross the pass at 3860 m. which bears the name of the lake, the first mountain peaks of over 5,000m appear on the horizon. At the end of the day bathing at the hot spring in Altyn-Arashan.

Day 5: Return to Karakol

We go down the valley through the gorge of Altyn-Arashan and by lunch time arrive in Karakol. In the afternoon we visit the city: Dunngan mosque, Orthodox Church, Karakol Museum (photos of Ella Maillart taken during her 1932 expedition)

Day 6: Transfer to Ak-Sai

We drive along the south shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. Magnificent views of the lake and mountains of the Tien Shan range (Celestial mountains). Camp by the lakeshore.

Day 7: Trekking

The vehicle drops us off at the village of Tura-Suu. We start our trekking in the Celestial Mountains. We take a trail of nomads that leads to the "jaïloos", the large summer pastures. Transfer time: 40m

Day 8: Jyluu-Suu

Trek to Jyluu-Suu (hot spring), we will pass Ton Pass (4022m) on the Teskei AlaToo range, southern side of Issyk-Kul Lake.

Day 9: Trekking to Lake

Teshik-Kul and return Trekking to Lake Teshik-Kul (pierced lake) which is at 3400m above sea level. In the afternoon we will go down to the same camp.

Day 10: Transfer

Morning: transfer via Sary-Bulak, passing by Dolon pass. Camp by the river of Song-kul.

Day 11: Mountain

Biking Day 1 We will take the old tracks to reach the "jaïloo" (summer pasture) of nomads of Song-Kul Lake.

Day 12: Song-Kul

By crossing nomads and herds of thousands of animals, we will continue our mountain bike ride in the SongKul steppes. Cycling distance: 30 km Accommodations: yurt


Day 13: Free day and horseback ride

During the summer a large gathering of Kyrgyz nomads cover the whole landscape. Discover the life of the nomads. Possibility of a horse ride or walk by foot.

Day 14: Kyzart Horseback riding

We will descend by the paths of nomads from village of Kyzart located at the foot of Song-Kul mountains. In the evening discover the "banya" Russian sauna.

Day 15: Kokomeren

Last day of mountain bike ride, 1 hour transfer before getting on the bike. We go along beautiful Kokomeren river, its mighty waters flow into a splendid canyon. The climb is regular, nice track.

Day 16: Bishkek and the return flight

Return to Bishkek crossing the Suusamyr plateau, then the famous Too-Ashuu pass Transfer: 5h

Transfer from Bishkek to the airport: 40 min

Accommodation: guest house

The organization:
A Francophone Kyrgyz guide (one or two assistants depending on the number of participants in a group), a driver. Meeting  at the airport upon arrival and the accompaniment  during the whole stay proposed on the program. A horseman with his packhorses for the treks.

The price includes:
-The organization and coordination of the trek
-All accommodation fees in full board
-French speaking Kyrgyz guide
-The equipment (tent, stove, dishes etc ...)
-On-site transfers

The price does not include:
- Drinks and extra personal expenses
- All activities not mentioned in the program
